Gulin Street Food

Trader Spotlight: Guilin Street Food

Forget your takeaways and your instant noodles, new Leicester Market trader Guilin Street Food is a fantastic place to get your taste of China right in the centre of Leicester.

Opened in late 2019, owner Duo offers a fantastic selection of traditional Chinese dishes and noodles packing more than enough punch to warm you up during the cold winter months.

Located just to the right of the Corn Exchange outside of Leicester Market’s Food Hall, the aroma of all of the fantastic, freshly-made meals and snacks on offer is enough to whet the appetite, whilst the taste of Duo’s fresh dishes is exquisite to say the least – and at extremely affordable prices, too.

Having noticed that there was a gap in the centre of the city, he says that he hopes to tap into a loyal customer base at Leicester Market.

“I think there are quite a lot of food stalls here but I couldn’t find any traditional Chinese noodles in Leicester Market. There’s a lot of customers doing their shopping and on their way to shopping, they could maybe pay me a visit. That’s why I chose the place here,” Duo said.

“I feel so welcome, I like this place very much. I enjoy it here.”

With Leicester becoming known as one of the most multi-cultural cities in the UK, it is no surprise to see Duo and Guilin Street Food doing so well, and that is backed up by some of the reviews that they are receiving since opening.

“They [customers] do really like it. They’re telling all of their friends and I’m getting more and more customers so it’s great. It’s going to be even better in the future,” he continued.

While he currently has a core base of Chinese students currently studying at either one of the city’s two universities, he continues to encourage potential new customers to come along to the stall, take a seat and try out some of the delicious traditional noodles he has on offer.

He said: “They will see that I have traditional Chinese food. If people come down and give it a try, that’s great, and a lot of them come back.”

With Chinese New Year round the corner on Saturday 25 January, when is there a better opportunity to pop down to Leicester Market and try some of the best street food that the city has to offer?

Leicester Market Food Hall is open between 8am-5pm Monday through to Saturday.
