Keith Ashmore - June 2020

Celebrate National Butchers Week with Leicester Market

The annual celebration of National Butchers Week takes place between Monday 6 and Sunday 12 March 2023, so make sure you visit the Market’s butchers and grab yourself some top-quality meat at super low prices!

As the name suggests, National Butchers Week is an annual celebration of those who provide meat for customers to consume in a variety of ways. The butchers’ shop has been a trademark of the market scene dating back to the Victorian age, and butchers still play a vital role for so many people across the UK today.

Therefore, we’re proud to be honouring these excellent traders during National Butchers Week. Join us as we take a look over the options available…

Keith Ashmore’s Quality Butchers

Starting with a long-time staple of the butchery scene, we have Keith Ashmore. He brings more than 40 years of experience within butchery, bringing incredible value for the most exquisite meat treats, as well as earning plenty of respect for what he does. Keith Ashmore’s Quality Butchers focuses on stocking top-quality, hand-selected meats that are produced locally, so you know that you’re getting a little piece of Leicester whenever you sample his food products. Some strong recommendations for his butcher’s range include spring lamb, mince and lamb grill sticks, and also chilli willi marinated pork. And also keep an eye out for his extensive summer barbecue range, which will add to the goodness of the warmer weather later this year!

Andrew Sykes Butchers

Next up, we’ve got Andrew Sykes, who is a second-generation butcher. It certainly runs in the family with Andrew, who has worked in butchery throughout his working life, and it was in 2009 that he took the step of starting his own business. Since then, Andrew Sykes Butchers have been a real hit, and are a firm favourite amongst shoppers at Leicester Market. They bring a sense of tradition but also a real flair for innovation, and Andrew emphasises that his store only sells locally sourced meats of the highest standard.

“We are traditional butchers,” says Andrew. “We dry-age all our steaks and our roasting beef for a minimum of 28 days and make all our own sausages and burgers.”

What’s more, Andrew’s store can cater for special dietary requirements, as well as offering delivery, and a summer barbecue range of their own with marinated meats.

Country Fayre

Last but not least, we come to a store within Leicester Market that doesn’t just bring decades of experience, but centuries! Indeed, Country Fayre has well over 330 years of both farming and butchery dating back many generations of the family. Now, it’s Adrian Pole who continues that family legacy by providing a vast range of meat, dairy and cheese products to serve the local community very well. They always source when possible and provide competitive prices, as well as offering delivery on all products. Keen shoppers should look out for Country Fayre’s award-winning sausages, as well as their country ham, bacon, pork pies and local Stilton cheese. They also stock plenty of fresh sausages, gammon, and cooked meats. Simply put, they have everything you could want from a butcher!

So, join Leicester Market in celebrating the best of British butchery, and in particular our amazing range of butchers’ stores during National Butchers Week 2023!
