Students – Save Money At Leicester Market

Attending university in Leicester? Want to ensure you’re eating well, but still have some money spare to head out on the town? In that case, make sure you head down to Leicester Market!

The new academic year is now well and truly underway, meaning students are once again be faced with the challenge of keeping themselves fed whilst ensuring they are financially stable – a challenge for those both new and returning students.

Weekly shops in supermarkets can incur considerable prices – ones that are simply unsustainable for the modern student. Thankfully, Leicester Market could be just the solution for those looking to make high-quality, tasty meals at affordable prices.

A plethora of friendly faces are on hand to offer students a fantastic selection of meats, fish, cheeses, fruit and veg, and so much more. The best part is that they are available at truly brilliant prices that could potentially be much lower than those at big-brand supermarkets.

As a matter of fact a weeks’ worth of potatoes, tomatoes, chicken, bacon, cheese, lettuce and onions is only going to set you back just under £15 as opposed to just over £20 at your nearest Tesco – and when the pennies mean that little bit more, that’s sure to help (even if it’s just affording a night out).

Coming along with your house or flatmates could prove to be even more beneficial as you’ll be able to pick up exactly what you need, feeding the whole house in the process – just make sure you’re not stuck with all of the washing up!

As a matter of fact, some stalls such as Andrew Sykes Butchers offer up to 10% off for students at various points throughout the year, making the Market an even more appealing place to students.

Frank Lee, of Frank Lee & Son Ltd, has suggested that some of his core trade throughout most afternoons revolves around students.

He said: “We serve a lot of students and see them coming into the Market at least twice a week, usually around 3pm. They really do keep us going. Without them, we’d probably start to really struggle in the afternoons.”

It doesn’t just end with food though; a variety of further goods can be snapped up but only if you’re quick. Clothes, fabrics, DVDs and electronics can all be found throughout the market so you really could get all you need to keep you going throughout the semester.

Make sure you give Leicester Market a visit on your way back from a lecture at some point in the near future.

The Outdoor Market is open between 7am and 6pm Monday through to Friday. Meanwhile, the Food Hall is open between the hours of 9am and 5pm Mon-Fri.
