However, that’s exactly what you can get should you pop down and visit Ali Mohammed at his 1st Step shoe shop at Leicester Market.
Located just opposite the Indoor Food Hall, the shop provides a high-quality, reasonably-priced alternative to the standard high-street names that can be found in the centre of the city.
Having been selling shoes for nearly the best part of a decade, Ali brought his shop to Leicester Market three years ago and caters for everyone, indicated by the long list of different types of footwear that he can provide.
He says: “We sell all kinds of footwear; ladies, gents, children. Mostly, nowadays, trainers, safety shoes, dressing shoes.”
That sheer versatility has not only seen him build up a loyal customer base of regular visitors to Leicester Market but also youngsters interested in updating their trainer collection.
Ali continued: “They [customers] come to the market because first of all it’s a traditional market and people come to have a look around and they can find a very good, reasonable price. I try my best to put a good price, good quality.”
As you walk past the store, it’s hard not to be surprised at the different amount of styles or colours that are available at 1st Step. Shelves are stacked high and with a warm welcome from Ali himself, it’s certainly tough to simply not be drawn in and walk away with an absolute bargain, potentially in a brand new pair of shoes!
Leicester Market is open every day between Monday through to Saturday, with the Outdoor Market open between 7am-6pm for you to go and see Ali at 1st Step.
