Christmas lights switch on – 22 November

If you’re visiting Leicester for the Christmas lights switch on (Wednesday 22 November), why not visit Leicester Market beforehand?

The market closes at 5pm, but shortly after, a drummer parade will lead crowds around the city for a lights switch-on event which runs from 5-8pm.

There will be plenty to enjoy for all ages with traditional entertainment in Town Hall Square nearby. Live brass bands will be playing your favourite festive tunes, the nativity scene will be on show plus you can get a first glimpse at Santa’s grotto being illuminated before he comes to stay in December. If you’re lucky, Santa himself may make an appearance on the evening!

Before all that though, our traders will be on hand to enable you to stock up on everything you need to prepare for the festive season.

Be sure to make our award-winning Food Hall your first stop as soon as possible, with our friendly range of butchers, fish and cheesemongers all taking orders for Christmas.

Amongst many things available, shoppers can pick up:

  • Turkey
  • Gammon
  • Duck
  • Goose
  • Pheasant
  • Sausages
  • Bacon
  • Pigs in Blankets
  • Chutneys
  • Pate
  • Pork Pies
  • Cheeses
  • Cooked Meats
  • Sauces

With fresh, local produce available and a range of hampers to choose from – the offering at Leicester Market beats any supermarket in the county hands down.

In our outdoor covered market, there’s a host of fruit and vegetable traders offering local fresh produce at stunning prices – meaning that if you have a small army to feed this Christmas, Leicester Market will enable you to do so at a snip of the prices you’ll pay anywhere else.

Also on offer at Leicester Market is a range of fresh flowers and bouquets – perfect to take to your hosts or nearest as a gift – in addition to confectionery for stockings and Christmas cards, wrapping paper and more to ensure you have everything sorted.

We look forward to seeing you soon, and wish you all a wonderful festive period.
