Walshy to Lift the World Cup at this Sunday’s Artisan Festival

Leicester City fans will have the opportunity to meet club legend Steve Walsh this Sunday at Leicester Market’s Artisan Festival. The former Foxes captain’s merchandise themed stall, which includes several rare sporting collectables, will be based in the Market Square throughout the day.

Probably the most popular player to wear the blue and white of Leicester City, Walshy now runs a number of successful businesses, including a sporting merchandise company called Premier Promotions. Steve will be available to sign memorabilia, pose for photographs and meet fans at the Premier Promotions stall from 11am on the day.

Replicas of some of the most sought after trophies in the sporting world will be on the stall, including football’s World Cup and cricket’s Ashes Urn. This summer’s tournament in South Africa may finally see England end over 40 years of hurt, and this Sunday is an ideal opportunity for footy fans to have their photograph taken with a trophy that looks just like the real thing.

Steve is looking forward to the festival, getting his hands on a replica of the World Cup trophy and meeting City fans.

“I like to support the Market whenever I can as I genuinely feel that it’s the heartbeat of the city. With the World Cup on the horizon and Leicester City and Tigers on fine form, now is the perfect time to get your hands on a collectable piece of sports memorabilia. I’m always happy to meet supporters and I’m sure they’ll enjoy having their photo taken with the World Cup and other replica trophies.”

This Sunday’s Leicester Artisan Festival 2010, sponsored by local store, Dominoes Toys, is set to host over 200 stalls, promoting and selling collectables, and arts and crafts. The free event, organised by Leicester City Council, is the first of a series of one day festivals taking place at the market throughout 2010.

For those wanting to try their hand at arts and crafts, local artist Carol Burns will be facilitating an open workshop in the square from 11.30am to 12.30pm for the whole family. A large canvas will be painted with sticks, rollers, brushes and hands.

Other attractions taking place on the day include The Utterly Butterly Ukulele project (TUBUP). This will provide the opportunity for participants to make their own ukulele from recyclable materials, before learning how to play it and taking part in a live performance.

Two community dance groups will be performing at the festival. WestEnd Dance Academy will appear at 11am and Studio 79 at 2pm.
