Trader Spotlight – Braden

September 9, 2015

Are you looking for a unique birthday gift, or perhaps starting your Christmas shopping early?

If one of your friends or a member of your family collects china or glassware ornaments, then look no further than the variety of pieces on offer at Braden at Leicester Market.

braden3Based at A5 in the outdoor section of the Market, Craig Soden’s stall buys and sells a range of items including Royal Doulton, Coalport and Victorian glassware on Mondays and Thursdays.

Starting as a collector himself, Craig made the decision to start trading when he moved to a smaller home where he didn’t have space for his vast collection – and has now been at Leicester Market for two years.

“I used to collect Royal Doulton myself years and years ago, then when I downsized house I found I had hundreds of pieces and that’s how it started,” explained Craig.

Relying primarily on word of mouth and passing trade, Craig often sells highly collectible items quicker than he can source them – saying ‘as often as I get some stuff in, it’s gone’.

braden5It is common on such stalls for pieces to be slightly damaged or chipped, but Craig prides himself on only selling products in immaculate condition. He chooses not to sell online, partly due to the risk of damage to pieces during the shipping process.

“Everything is washed, nothing is dirty, and I don’t sell anything that’s damaged. Absolutely nothing on this stall is damaged,” says Craig, clearly very pride of the high standards he holds himself to.

Christmas is Craig’s busiest time he says, and people have already started buying gifts for loved ones. From November he will also have a range of festive themed items – which tend to sell out before the start of December.

Due to the individual nature of the products on offer at the Braden stall, shoppers are encouraged to act fast so as not to miss out on pieces. Craig is generally willing to negotiate on price to agree on something which works for him and the customer.

braden4As mentioned previously, Craig does not trade online so to see his products customers it is best to visit his stall in person. However, he is available to speak to on telephone via 07565 823 782 to discuss what he has in stock or if he would be interested in buying anything you may be thinking of selling.

Braden is just one of many stalls selling bric-a-brac and collectibles in the Outdoor Market – which is open between 7:00am and 6:00pm, Monday to Saturday.
