Tai Chi Returns to Leicester Market

A flavour of traditional Chinese exercise and culture is due to return to Leicester Market from this spring.

Free, early morning outdoor Tai Chi sessions, which took place for the first time last year, are returning to the New Market Square.

Public Tai Chi Sessions are held in the New Market Square on Saturdays from 9.00am to 10.00am, and take place each Saturday morning at the same time.

The sessions are free to attend, and do not need to be booked in advance. Tai Chi is suitable for all ages and abilities, though participants with health conditions which may affect them should inform the instructor.

Leicester Market, the Confucius Institute at De Montfort University and Tai Chi instructor Sifu Derek Frearson have worked together to put on the events.

Tai Chi is a gentle, low-impact form of exercise which was developed in China, and combines deep breathing and relaxation with flowing movements and positions.

Tai Chi is believed to help reduce stress, improve balance, posture and mobility.
