St George Slays the Dragon in Leicester Market Festivities

April 24, 2017

Leicester’s annual St George’s Day Festival took place on Saturday 22 April, with Leicester Market hosting a family-friendly re-enactment of St George’s rescue of a damsel in distress at the hands of a dastardly dragon.

Taking place between 11.00am and 1.00pm, LU Theatre – the theatre society of the University of Leicester – delivered their unique telling of the classic tale.

In what was the third year of LU Theatre’s involvement, the society also performed from a script that featured a few modern-day, local references to provide a bit of tongue-in-cheek humour.

The performance took place on the same day as the St George’s Day Festival, which was held in Orton Square next to Curve Theatre.

Shoppers in Leicester all enjoyed taking a break to enjoy the fantastic performances, which were met with a huge round of applause at the end.
