Santa Claus is Coming to Town… Leicester Market to be Precise
This year, Leicester Market’s New Market Square is to host ‘Santa in the Square’ a fantastic FREE experiences for children and their families to meet Father Christmas.
Taking place between Saturday 8 to Saturday 23 December, ‘Santa in the Square’ will allow people to visit a beautifully decorated Christmas grotto in the heart of Leicester city centre, with the traditional Christmas setting featuring a five-metre tall Christmas tree which will signpost a route of trees leading to the man himself!
Visiting hours will be as follows:
Monday to Friday – 11.00am to 6.00pm
Saturday – 10.00am to 6.00pm
Sunday – 10.00am to 4.00pm
Illuminated garlands strung between the square’s lamp-columns, and lights sparking within the square’s four permanent Christmas trees will add to the special festive atmosphere.
Whilst visiting, children can post their letters to Father Christmas in his post box or hand them over when speaking to him in his grotto.
This outdoor event is completely free – but with it being outside and set to be busy, make sure you’re wrapped up and ready for all types of weather.

‘Santa in the Squre’ is the latest event is a programme of works transforming Leicester’s historic outdoor market, and the final improvements to New Market Square will create a key destination in the heart of the old town.
This up-and-coming area in Leicester city centre already boasts a huge choice of independent retail shops, cafes, tea houses, bars and restaurants – as well as the historic market with its award-winning Food Hall.
There’s a full programme of events in 2019 taking place at New Market Square, located just off Market Place South behind the Grade II listed Corn Exchange, including speciality international markets, street food and themed movie nights.
