Leicester Markets’ Discount Start Up Scheme Returns
A popular council scheme to help people set up as first time market traders is set to return.
Under the scheme, stall charges will be reduced for a six-week period for traders new to either Leicester or Beaumont Leys market, with prices starting from as little as £5 a day for a stall. Insurance costs will also be covered for the period.
Cllr Sarah Russell, cabinet member, said: “The discount scheme has proven very in the past and we are happy to be able to re-introduce it during these challenging times.
“We want our markets to be at the centre of the city’s enterprise and retail activity and to continue to attract a diverse range of traders and stalls.”
The scheme will also provide new traders with business advice and guidance through the city council’s markets team and Business Link.
Joe Harkin, market development manager, said: “We have been working closely with local organisations like Business Link and Skills for Enterprise to work together to improve the overall package of support we can offer to new and existing traders.
“We will be launching further initiatives in partnership with these agencies and want our markets to be recognised as a hub for enterprise and employment resources.”
The start up scheme runs from now until October 2010. For further information call the markets office on 223 2371
