Leicester Market at the Heart of City Festival

Throughout August, visitors to Leicester city centre will be treated to a number of entertaining and exciting events, celebrating culture, diversity and lifestyle – with Leicester Market at the heart of a number of activities taking place.

Take a look below at some of the highlights of the City Festival which will take place right here at Leicester Market.


CITY RIDE LEICESTER
Sunday 13 August
12.30pm – 4.30pm
De Montfort University, King Power Stadium, Leicester Market’s new Market Square, city centre

In what has become one of the key active dates in the Leicester calendar, City Ride Leicester weaves its way around an 8km route packed full of entertainment. The start/finish hub will be based at De Montfort University’s beautiful riverside campus, where there will be lots of family entertainment on offer. New and returning cycling fans will be welcomed at the home of Leicester City Football Club, King Power Stadium. People can also catch a ride in a rickshaw at Cathedral Gardens, whilst BMX freestyler Keelan Phillips will be showing off his skills at Magazine Square.

LITTLE INDIA
Saturday 19 August
11.00am onwards
Humberstone Gate, High Street and Leicester Market’s new Market Square

Leicester city centre will be brought to life by costumed street performers, dancers and the colours/dance action of Holi Festival of Colours flash mobs. Visitors will also be able to meet Harminder, the cycle-powered Indian elephant who moves through the crowds accompanied by music with a colourful performer perched on her back. There will be plenty of photo opportunities and entertainment for the whole family.

At Leicester Market, families will be invited to join in a number of participatory workshops, which will be taking place between 11.00am and 5.00pm.


LEICESTER BELGRAVE MELA FESTIVAL
Sunday 20 August
11.00am – 6.00pm
Gallowtree Gate, Clock Tower, Humberstone Gate, Leicester Market and new Market Square

Star Plus, Natco Foods and Leicester Belgrave Mela invite the public to a day of scintillating entertainment, dazzling street performances, mouth-watering cuisine, arts and Indian culture. Visitors can enjoy a host of South Asian arts and cultural experiences.

At Leicester Market, you will be able to spot a bargain in the UK’s biggest shopping bazaar!

You will be amazed by circus tricks and performances by The Rajasthan Heritage Brass Band who are travelling all the way from Jaipur, India.

There’s something for all the family at this cultural festival – don’t miss out!


MONSTER COLOURS
Friday 25 August

New Market Square

Join Leicester Market for an array of interactive games to test your puzzle solving, cup stacking and co-ordination abilities.

Playful Catalan artists Tombs Creatius’ beautifully designed and handmade wooden games are perfect for all ages and skill levels.

With colourful illustrations, they create an expressive and exciting atmosphere in the streets.
