Have a Flippin’ Good Time at Leicester Market

Are you are high-flipping, nimble-footed, charity-supporting, elite pancake race athlete with nothing to lose and everything to prove? If so, Leicester Market wants to hear from you!

The market will be holding its traditional pancake race in aid of local hospice LOROS on Shrove Tuesday – 5 March – and is looking for teams of four that are available to take part.

You could be a workplace team, a group of friends or – as previously mentioned – elite athletes who have honed your talents in pancake race competitions across the globe.

All you need to do to enter is pledge £50 to LOROS and be free to be at the market on Shrove Tuesday from 12.45pm to 1.45pm.

It will be the sixth year that the market has held the race, in which traders, charity staff and city workers pledge donations to LOROS before taking part in a hotly-contested pancake-flipping relay event.

And from 11.00am on Shrove Tuesday, outside the Corn Exchange, visitors to the market can sample a tasty pancake for just £1, with plenty of toppings available. For the first time this year, delicious vegan pancakes will also be on offer. Proceeds from all sales will go directly to LOROS.

Adam Piotrowski, development officer at Leicester Market, said: “We’re looking for teams to take part in this popular, fun event, which helps raise important funds for a local charity. If you think you’ve got what it takes, get in touch and we’ll sign you up!

“The market is also a great place to come to buy your pancake ingredients – here you can get local Leicester eggs, berries for toppings, lemons and oranges and local honey from our food hall for drizzling on top.

“And with pancakes available to buy for just £1 on the day, we also look forward to welcoming lots of hungry visitors to the market on Shrove Tuesday.”

To enter the pancake race, email adam.piotrowski@leicester.gov.uk by Friday 22 February.
