Get Set for Caribbean Food Week
As of Monday 21 August, it’s Caribbean Food Week – and where better to get everything you need to celebrate than Leicester Market?
Whether it’s through the incredible selection of fruit and veg traders in the Outdoor Market or the superb array of locally sourced meat, fish and dairy available at Leicester Market’s award-winning Food Hall – there’s definitely something that will give your dish some Caribbean flavour!
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday in particular, make sure you head to C15, C16, C19 and C20 at the Outdoor Market to take a look at the amazing selection of Caribbean produce on offer from Airolyn Hunt.
Also head to B unit between Tuesday and Friday, where Christine Pittard provides an amazing array of exotic fruit and vegetables, whilst Wazobia – located in the covered units near Nationwide on Market Place – is an authentic Afro-Caribbean stall offering an incredible array of products.
However, throughout the week, many of our other fruit and veg traders have a variety of Scotch bonnet chillies, limes, spring onions, ginger, sweet potatoes, pineapples, mangos and more to give your food the amazing flavour of the Caribbean.
And whether you want to experience Jerk chicken or fish – make sure you take a look at our local fishmongers and butchers within the Food Hall. Trawlerman in particular sells salt cod; hugely popular within Caribbean cuisine.
Furthermore, Rahel’s spice stall at Unit 29 has a wide range of Caribbean spices, all pre-mixed and ready to go with offers to be had on multiple purchases.
IF THAT WASN’T ENOUGH, on Bank Holiday Monday, 28 August, head down to Market Place for Leicester’s Big Caribbean Cook Out, with live music, children’s activities and delicious food, as The Community Giants host the finest Caribbean barbeque festival at Leicester Market.
GET IN TOUCH – if you craft something with a Caribbean flavour from produce at Leicester Market, share it with us! Get in touch via @LE1Market on Twitter and Instagram, or post to the Leicester Markets page on Facebook.
