Duo of Traders to Accept Healthy Start Vouchers
As of Monday 12 February, Leicester Market fruit and veg traders Vicki Chapple and Pasquale Garcea will be accepting Healthy Start vouchers in exchange for their fresh produce.
Healthy Start is the UK government’s food welfare scheme for pregnant women with a low income, families with young children, and pregnant teenagers. Through Healthy Start, eligible families receive free vouchers every week to spend on milk, infant formula milk, vitamins and – in the case of Leicester Market – plain fresh fruit and vegetables.
If you’re heading down to Leicester Market – just look out for the Healthy Start logo at the participating traders’ stalls.
The introduction of Healthy Start at Leicester Market will enable eligible families a wealth of choice when it comes to purchasing fresh fruit and vegetables – and could increase the number of families that use the scheme.
At present, the take-up rate for Healthy Start in Leicester is 73%. With around 4,000 people eligible, only 2,900 are registered.
