Market Shoppers will be treated to a cooking demonstration of a classic dish on Friday 4th October on Market Square.

Teaming up with Our Healthy City, an initiative to encourage healthier lifestyles in the city, Leicester Market will show people how to make a broccoli and cauliflower macaroni cheese with a healthy twist.

Market Chef, Adam Piotrowski said: “Macaroni and Cheese is a dish that everyone loves, but we feel guilty about eating it because it is high in fat and carbohydrates.

“What we want to illustrate is that by making simple changes to your cooking, you can make this dish healthier and even include some of your 5 portions of fruit and veg for the day.”

This cooking demonstration will be part of the Leicestershire Food Fortnight, an initiative to raise the profile of food and drink in the county.

“To highlight the local aspect of this dish we will be using Red Leicester cheese in the sauce.  This is a strong tasting cheese which means you don’t have to put quite as much in it to make the cheese taste come through, which makes it healthier.

“There are some really great foods that come out of the region, but Red Leicester has got to be one of the most well-known.

“We want to continue to emphasize the importance of food in our region.”

Also on offer will be free samples of the dish and recipe cards so you have a go at cooking it yourself at home.

The cooking demonstration will start at 12:30pm.

Please check back closer to the date of the event for more details.
