2015 Festivals & Events

January 20, 2015

We are very excited to announce our festivals and events calendar for 2015.

2014 was a great year for Leicester Market. Throughout the early months of the year, we were hard at work preparing for our new food hall, which opened on May 23rd during Love Your Local Market week. Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby along with Jade Pole of Country Fayre cut the ribbon officially declaring the building open, which was followed by hundreds of visitors flooding the doors.

The opening of the new food hall cannot be considered anything but a great success with traders reporting significant increases in both foot fall and sales since the move. There has also been great feedback from the public about the bright and clean food hall.

st george's dayWe also saw our exciting Summer and Winter Food Festivals celebrating the best of local food, which included appearances from popular TV chef Andy Bates as well as local up and coming Brit Reggae band By the Rivers. Along with our other regular events including Mela, Our Leicester Day along with 3 continental markets, St George’s Day and the Easter Bonnet Competition and 2014 was an action packed year.

With the redevelopment of the market progressing nicely including plans for the creation of a new square in the site of the old indoor market and refurbishments to the outdoor market, 2015 promises to be another excellent year for Leicester Market.

Highlights for this year’s calendar include the 7th annual Summer Food and Drink Festival which will take place on May 24th as well as the Winter Food and Craft Festival in November which both feature the best local and regional food, drink and craft producers selling their wares as well as cooking demonstrations and live entertainment.

SkibandWe also are looking forward to the 3rd City Festival in August which will see the ever popular Mela turn Leicester Market into the largest Indian Bazaar under one roof in the UK as well as Our Leicester Day where you can to learn how you can get involved with the local community.

The always popular Continental Market will be back from April 8th – 12th along with 2 other visits throughout the year bringing a taste of Europe to the City Centre.

And don’t forget to support your local food producers at the Leicestershire Links Farmer’s Market, which takes place on the first Thursday of every month on Gallowtree Gate.
